Singing & Theatre Arts Teacher, Musical Director, Piano Accompanist & Composer
Teaching singing is a huge passion of mine as working with every voice is different. I teach a huge range of pupils of different ages and varying abilities but with different interests. This can be recapping and improving basic technique, working towards exams, a single concert or an audition for a drama school. I use the Estill model in my teaching and specialise in musical theatre but I do teach and work with people singing many different styles. A basic and fundamental understanding of how the voice works supports all styles of singing. For more info click here
As a musical director I have a range of experience working with both amateur, professional and youth theatre companies; mostly for musicals but I have also worked on cabarets and plays with music; sometimes as a composer or arranger. My skills as a MD include being able to accompany rehearsals, sight read, lead vocal warm ups and workshops, playing keys in orchestra pits, conducting ensembles, keyboard and Mainstage programming, creating arrangements and composing award winning music. My experience as a singing teacher obviously coincides with my role as a musical director and as someone who has been a performer I can understand a performer’s perspective and know how to adapt my approach in order to facilitate what needs to be achieved. I am currently the resident Musical Director at Theatre Box, Epsom and Pinot! The Musical. For more info click here
As an accompanist I have excellent sight reading skills and the ability to follow and adjust my playing to support whoever I’m working with. I like to think I’m a sensitive accompanist who is an extension of the soloist. Most of my accompanying experience is in musical theatre with vocalists but I regularly accompany vocalists and instrumentalists in Jazz, Pop and other Contemporary styles. I am able to improvise and read off lead sheets as well as create arrangements and do transpositions. I have a lot of experience accompanying choirs and playing for music exams. Don't have a piano? I also have the facility to bring my own Roland FP80 digital piano for venues or rehearsal rooms without a piano. For more info click here
I like to compose for theatre; mainly underscores and music that compliments what happens on stage. "Afterglow" by Ropewalk Theatre Company in 2013 was the first score I wrote and more recently I wrote a score for a production of “Tom’s Midnight Garden” for piano and viola. I have also composed instrumental music for a range of instruments and styles including two piano suites. My compositions have been performed by The Fidelio Trio, pianist Kate Ryder and The Bridge String Quartet. Most of my compositions are available to listen to in the Gallery and sheet music is available here http://www.scoreexchange.com/profiles/27144
I offer a range of workshops for schools, colleges and youth groups calling upon my professional experience and training as a qualified teacher. My most popular workshops include basic singing technique, musical theatre, acting through song and audition technique for all ages and abilities, amateur or professional. All my workshops are flexible as regards space, time and required learning outcomes. If this is of any interest to you or you would like to request a workshop please email me email@example.com.
